Guwahati: More than 520 teaching posts reserved for SC, ST and OBC candidates are currently lying vacant in government colleges and universities across Assam, the state assembly was informed on Thursday.
Replying in writing to a question from Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said 522 reserved-category positions remain unfilled—429 in colleges and 93 in universities.
He added that vacancies extend beyond reserved categories, with 775 general-category posts also lying vacant across higher education institutions.

Of the college-level vacancies, 297 posts are reserved for OBCs, 46 for SCs and 96 for STs.
In universities, 49 OBC posts, 13 SC posts and 31 ST posts remain unfilled, the minister said.
