GUWAHATI: The opposition in Assam has decided to field a common candidate in each seat against the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls in Assam.
An alliance of 12 different parties, on Thursday, informed the press that they would be fielding a “united” candidate in each constituency against the Saffron party to “end the mis-governance and endless saga of corruption of the anti-public government”.
“We want to ensure that no vote division occurs in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” read a statement issued by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, an alliance partner in the forum, post a meeting of all the parties in Guwahati.
The alliance further informed that it has decided to have a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) in view of the upcoming LS polls.
“The CMP would be drafted under leadership of Assam Trinamool Congress chief, Ripun Bora. The Opposition has also decided to draft chargesheets against the current government,” read the statement.
Formed to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the parliament elections, the alliance further informed that important decisions like these will be taken in their upcoming session in Dibrugarh by November end.
Akhil Gogoi, President, Raijor Dol, another alliance partner in the forum, declared that in the interest of Opposition Alliance the Raijor Dol is not going to “demand” any seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.
Meanwhile, two more organisations – Shiv Sena, Assam and APHLC of Karbi Anglong – joined the Opposition Alliance on Thursday, making its total strength to 15 parties.
