Guwahati: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MDC) has issued an official notification renaming the A5-A18 Kailash Colony Road in New Delhi after Bodo leader Upendra Nath Brahma.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for taking forward the proposal of naming a prominent road in the heart of Delhi as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg as a tribute to the Bodo leader.
Taking to X, the chief minister said, “@MCD_Delhi has approved the road from A5-A18 Kailash Colony as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg which will be dedicated shortly to the nation, fulfilling a commitment made to the people of BTR by Adarniya Griha Mantri ji.”
Notably, Upendra Nath Brahma was the president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and the spearhead of the Bodoland movement for the uplift of the Bodo community.
The decision to name a street in the national capital after Brahma, who is revered as the father of the Bodo community, was earlier announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Assam in March.

Addressing the 57th annual conference of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) as the chief guest in Kokrajhar last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said when the entire Bodoland was “following the path shown by its leader, Upendranath Brahma, the government has decided to name a prominent road in Delhi as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg”.
He also said that the Narendra Modi-led Central government and the Assam government would “bring every dream of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma to fruition.
