Guwahati: In a significant environmental initiative, NCC cadets from 60 Assam Girls Battalion in Guwahati have planted over 800 saplings across 29 schools and colleges in the city over the past four months.
The tree plantation drive was carried out under the auspices of the NCC Group Headquarters, Guwahati under the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region (NER).
The initiative, which aligns with the Government of India’s “EK PED MAA KE NAAM” and the “#plant4mother” campaign launched on World Environment Day, underscores the importance of collective action in combating climate change and preserving our environment.
The cadets planted a diverse range of trees, including Neem, Guava, Mango, and others, carefully selected for their environmental benefits and suitability to the local climate, reflecting a well-considered approach to enhancing urban greenery and ecological balance.
By involving students and staff, the NCC cadets fostered a deeper appreciation for environmental conservation and the vital role trees play in the ecosystem.
A ceremony held at one of the participating schools celebrated the cadets’ achievements and highlighted the collaboration between NCC and educational institutions in creating a greener, more sustainable future.
The success of this initiative demonstrates the power of collective action and the NCC cadets’ dedication to environmental stewardship.
