Barpeta: The Barpeta district officially launched National Deworming Day at Barpeta Town High School in Assam, with Geetashri Lachit, Additional District Commissioner (Health), Barpeta, presiding over the event.

This initiative is part of a statewide effort to administer deworming tablets to children aged 1 to 19 across Assam.

During her address, ADC (Health) Geetashri Lachit emphasised the critical role of deworming in enhancing children’s health, combating malnutrition, and promoting overall well-being.

She reassured the attendees that the district health administration had taken all necessary measures to ensure that as many children as possible benefit from this program.

As part of the initiative, approximately 5,37,731 children, including those from Bajali District, will receive Albendazole tablets through schools and Anganwadi centres.

A Mop-Up Day is scheduled for February 17, 2025, to administer the tablets to any children who may have missed the initial distribution.

The event was also attended by Dr. Ajit Sarma, In-Charge Joint Director of Health Services, Barpeta, Dr. Rajkanya Gogoi, In-Charge of the Barpeta Urban Health Center, as well as officials from the District Programme Manager (NHM), District Community Mobilizer, and District Media Expert, NHM Barpeta.
