Guwahati: Kerala Police has arrested a 25-year-old man from Assam for allegedly attempting to spread extremist ideology through social media, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Roshidul Islam, was arrested on Tuesday from the Kaipamangalam police station area in Thrissur district.
Police said he had been residing in the area for nearly two years and was employed with a private firm.
According to police, the accused allegedly shared social media content that promoted religious hatred and indicated an inclination towards extremist activities.
Police also claimed that he was in contact with individuals based outside the country, including in Bangladesh, through phone calls and social media platforms.

Officials further said preliminary investigations suggest that he had attempted to procure AK-47 rifles from Pakistan.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing, police added.
