GUWAHATI: The political fervour in Assam is set to escalate as Union Home Minister Amit Shah gears up to spearhead the Lok Sabha election campaign in the state.
Scheduled to arrive in Guwahati tomorrow, Shah’s itinerary is packed with rallies and meetings aimed at bolstering the electoral prospects of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates across various constituencies.
Upon his arrival in the state, Shah will immediately dive into action by participating in a campaign meeting for the Dibrugarh constituency candidate and Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
This will be followed by successive campaign events rallying behind candidates from Sonitpur and Lakhimpur constituencies, Ranjit Dutta and Pradan Barua respectively.
The following day, the Union Home Minister is slated to headline a rally in Tinsukia, further drumming up support for the BJP ahead of the upcoming polls.
Notably, Shah’s earlier visit to Assam, initially planned for April 7 and 8, was cancelled, prompting a reshuffle in the campaign schedule.
Previously slated to address rallies in Hojai, Lakhimpur, and Gohpur, the revised itinerary now focuses on bolstering support for BJP candidates through concentrated campaign efforts on April 9.
Meanwhile, the political landscape sees the entry of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national leader Atishi, who has embarked on a three-day campaign trail in Assam starting today.
Commencing her campaign stint in Dibrugarh with a roadshow, Atishi is poised to engage with the electorate through various public forums, including a Townhall meeting later in the day.
“Assam too will witness Arvind Kejriwal’s revolution. For the next three days, I will forward Kejriwal ji’s dream of a ‘vikshit bharat’. I will meet the people in the state and strengthen our fight against dictatorship,” Atishi affirmed via her social media channels, underscoring the AAP’s commitment to grassroots engagement.
As the electoral battle intensifies, Assam braces for an onslaught of campaign fervour as political heavyweights vie for voter attention and support in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
