GUWAHATI: Breaking new ground in eco-friendly and efficient transportation, Minister of Transportation, Parimal Suklabaidya, unveiled electric bike taxi and delivery services through the cutting-edge Baayu ASTC App.

In an event held on Sunday, the state introduced India’s first app-based, 100% electric and decentralised bike taxi service.

The venture is a result of the collaboration between Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Bikozee Ecotech, a state-based startup.

The Baayu ASTC App is set to anticipated to transform the transportation landscape in the state, offering zero-emission bike taxis and delivery services.

Launched in line with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) approach, this initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

In a statement, ASTC highlighted the far-reaching impact of “Baayu”, stating, “Baayu aims to generate 5,000 livelihood opportunities for driver partners right here in Assam by supporting with electric vehicles, technology platform, insurance, training, skill development, and operating license in line with Assam Aggregator rules 2022. The move will reduce carbon emissions by 29,000 tonnes per annum and save Rs 73 crore annually on fuel consumption.”

Under the banner of “Baayu – Clean Air Movement”, the ASTC is committed to improving air quality and public health by deploying electric vehicles in the transport and logistics sectors.

The initiative also incorporates decentralised technologies of Beckn protocol to develop digital public infrastructures deployed on the ONDC.

The statement further stated that, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity, Baayu serves as a testament to the Assam’s commitment to fostering economic growth, promoting entrepreneurship, and embracing environmentally conscious practices.
