Guwahati: Police have launched a probe after a Guwahati-based television journalist filed a complaint alleging threats from a retired IAS officer following a news report involving the officer’s son, who serves in the Assam Police Service.
The complaint was submitted by journalist Rana Deka to the Bajali senior superintendent of police on Friday.
Deka has alleged that he received an abusive phone call after his channel aired a report on the tense situation outside Baksa district jail, where five accused in the singer Zubeen Garg death case are lodged.
Last month, clashes had broken out when the accused were brought to the jail, and video footage aired by the channel purportedly showed an APS officer baton-charging demonstrators.
The officer seen in the footage is the son of the former bureaucrat named in the complaint.

The journalist further alleged that threats were extended to his family, including his eight-year-old son.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and said an investigation is underway.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details on the sections invoked or whether any formal statement has been sought from the accused.
