GUWAHATI: Assam Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Anand Mishra, who is currently serving as the Superintendent of Police in Lakhimpur, has tendered his ‘unconditional resignation’ from service.
The announcement of ‘unconditional resignation’ came through a letter addressed to the Assam chief secretary on Tuesday evening.
Mishra, a Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer said he decided to resgn from the service to lead a life of freedom and independence. The IPS officer requested the Assam government to release him on January 16.
“This is to submit my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realize through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS,” the resignation letter said.
Earlier, as per an order by the Assam government, Anand Mishra was placed at the disposal of the Government of Manipur to take charge of the SITs constituted for the ongoing violent incidents in the state.
Notably, the direction came in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court of India in its judgment dated August 7, 2023 in Special Leave Petition (SLP) Civil Dairy No. 19206 of 2023.
Mishra’s sudden resignation from the Indian Police Service came as a big surprise for most of the people in the corridors of power in Dispur. He has been well-known in Assam for his pro-active role in fighting the war against drugs, gold and cattle smuggling.
The IPS officer, who served as Superintendent of Police in Dhubri, Nagaon and Lahimpur, has millions of followers on the social media, and his loved by the local people for his prompt policing abilities.
Though Mishra has tendered ‘unconditional resignation’ from the police service, sources claimed that he is eyeing to context the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Buxar constituency in Bihar.
However, Mishra could not be contacted for comments on his ‘unconditional resignation’ from the police service.
