Guwahati: The Guwahati Police Commissionerate has issued a comprehensive advisory for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations in the city.
The guidelines were announced by Guwahati CP Diganta Barah on Thursday, aiming to ensure a safe and peaceful festival for all.
The puja committees have been instructed to obtain necessary permissions from the local police station for constructing pandals in public places. They should also ensure adequate safety measures, including a medical team and proper security arrangements.
The committees have been directed to appoint sufficient volunteers, provide them with clear instructions, and implement crowd control measures like separate entry/exit points and CCTV surveillance.
Pandals must have sufficient lighting, backup power, emergency access, and proper waste management facilities.
The puja committees must adhere to fire safety regulations, obtain fitness certificates for electrical fittings and sound systems, and comply with noise pollution limits.
The Guwahati Police Commissionerate has encouraged the use of biodegradable materials for pandals and idols, stressing that no hazardous materials get dumped into water bodies.
Citizens have been urged to follow traffic rules, avoid unnecessary roadblocks, and cooperate with authorities during processions.
As per the advisory, puja committees should promote a peaceful and inclusive environment, avoid conflicts, and refrain from forceful donations.
Activities like bursting firecrackers during immersion, parking near pandals, using non-biodegradable materials, defacing public property, and excessive noise pollution are strictly prohibited.
The Guwahati Police Commissionerate, in the advisory, emphasised that only devotional songs are to be played during the immersion of idols.
According to the advisory, unauthorized processions or gatherings without proper permissions are strictly prohibited.
