Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched the women entrepreneurship support scheme, providing Rs 10,000 seed capital to women to boost self employment opportunities.
The scheme, Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, was launched by the chief minister at Behali in Biswanath district.
The scheme will be rolled out across the state in phases.
“With the blessings of our mothers and sisters, today we launched the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, providing Rs 10,000 seed capital to women to boost self-employment opportunities,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X.

He said the Assam government has adopted a multi-layered strategy to empower women right from school to old age.
He said, “Free admissions, free schooling, livelihood support through Orunodoi, #MMMUA, old age pension and free foodgrains, in every step we are standing firm with our Nari Shakti.”
Through the scheme, the state government will provide Rs 10,000 as seed capital in the first year, Rs 25,000 (Rs 12,500 loan & Rs 12,500 Govt support) in the second year on meaningful usage of seed capital, and Rs 50,000 in the third year.
Through this, we aim to catalyse micro-level entrepreneurship in Assam, the chief minister said.
At today’s event in Behali, 23,375 women received their first cheques, strengthening Assam’s rural economy through agriculture, livestock, and micro-enterprises.
