GUWAHATI: The Assam government has issued a “high alert” to all its districts sharing border with Bangladesh as the situation in the neighbouring country remains volatile.
Districts in Assam, including Karimganj, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar, which share a 267.5 km border with Bangladesh, have been instructed to remain vigilant.
“We have alerted all the border districts to be on high alert. We have asked the district commissioners and SPs to personally monitor the border situation,” an official told PTI.
According to the official, the state government is monitoring the Integrated Check Posts at Sutarkandi in Assam, Dawki in Meghalaya and Akhaura in Tripura along with its counterparts in those states following the ongoing unrest and resignation of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Monday, the Border Security Force (BSF) issued a “high alert” along the India-Bangladesh border in the backdrop of the developments in the neighbouring country.
