Guwahati: The Assam government on Wednesday donated Rs 5 crore along with relief materials to flood-affected Himachal Pradesh.
Assam Minister for Power Prasanta Phukan handed over the cheque of Rs 5 crore to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at Himachal Sadan in New Delhi, an official statement said.
Phukan handed over the cheque to Chief Minister Sukhu on behalf of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the people of Assam for the flood-affected people of the state.
“On behalf of the people and Govt of Assam, we’ve contributed Rs 5 crore to the Himachal Pradesh CM Relief Fund. In these testing times, Assam stands with Himachal, sharing their grief and offering our heartfelt support as they rebuild lives and communities,” Phukan posted on X.
CM Sarma, in a post on X, also offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster in the northern state.
“The devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh have caused immense loss of lives and property. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the affected,” he said.
“Assam stands firmly with the sisters and brothers of Himachal Pradesh in these testing times. 3.5 cr people of Assam extend their prayers and solidarity in these times,” the chief minister said.
A total of 133 major landslides, 95 flash floods and 45 cloudbursts have ravaged parts of Himachal Pradesh since the onset of monsoon on June 20.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday (September 9) to review the flood situation and damage caused due to cloudbursts, rains and landslides.
The prime minister conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of the state and also announced financial assistance of Rs 1,500 crore.
