Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya reviewed the state’s preparedness to tackle the seasonal floods, calling for seamless coordination among government departments and agencies to minimise the impact of potential flooding.
A high-level meeting was convened at the Raj Bhavan to assess flood readiness, with Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Keshab Mahanta, senior officials from central and state agencies, and members of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in attendance.
The meeting evaluated the state’s contingency plans and reflected on lessons learned from previous flood seasons to enhance preparedness.
Officials presented updates on infrastructure readiness, community outreach efforts, and coordination protocols between central and state departments.
Acharya, sharing his observations from recent visits to various districts, expressed satisfaction with the preparations underway.
He emphasised that preparedness must be rooted in both experience and collaboration, urging all departments to work closely with ASDMA to ensure timely and effective flood response.
“Flood preparedness is a collective responsibility in the service of the people,” the Governor said, while highlighting the importance of coordinated action between central and state agencies.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta outlined several proactive steps taken by the state government, including mandatory field visits by officials at block and district levels to gather ground-level data and ensure real-time responsiveness.
He noted that embankments had been strengthened, and direct engagement with local communities was ongoing to address grassroots-level concerns.
“The field-level interactions have enabled better understanding of vulnerabilities and helped guide mitigation strategies,” Mahanta said, thanking the Governor for his continued support and guidance.

A detailed presentation was delivered by Principal Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management and CEO of ASDMA, Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, highlighting ongoing flood preparedness initiatives across Assam, including contingency planning and inter-agency coordination.
Officials from various central government departments reaffirmed their support in strengthening the state’s flood management efforts.
Among those present were Prof. Bechan Lal, Officer on Special Duty to the Governor; S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor; Meenakshi Das Nath, Secretary of ASDMA; and other senior government officials.
