GUWAHATI: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has stressed on the shared responsibility of the government and society in empowering differently-abled individuals across various spheres—physical, social, economic, and intellectual.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Narayana Artificial Limb Measurement Camp on Sunday, Governor Kataria underscored the pivotal role of both the central and state governments in facilitating the seamless integration of differently-abled individuals into society.

Held at Aashi Apsara Hall, Paltan Bazaar, the camp witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 1000 differently-abled individuals and representatives from more than 30 local organisations in attendance.

During the event, Governor Kataria distributed 11 wheelchairs and engaged with beneficiaries of artificial limbs, expressing keen interest in their experiences.

Applauding the relentless efforts of Narayan Seva Sansthan in serving the differently-abled community, Governor Kataria also extended his congratulations to its founder, Kailash Manav, and President Prashant Agarwal for their exemplary service in Assam and the Northeast.

Vandana Agarwal, Director of the Sansthan, provided insights into the wide array of free services offered by the organisation, ranging from artificial limbs and corrective surgeries to vocational training and mass weddings for individuals with disabilities.

Rajat Gaur, Head of the Mahagangotri Department, elaborated on the Sansthan’s 39 years of service and outlined its vision for the future.

The camp facilitated measurements for artificial limbs for 205 individuals and callipers for 80, with over 130 patients selected for free surgeries in Udaipur.

Camp in-charge Hari Prasad Laddha noted that selected individuals would receive their limbs during a subsequent camp in Guwahati in approximately three months.

Patients from states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram also attended the camp.

A dedicated team of 40 members from the Sansthan rendered services during the camp, with voluntary workers recognized for their contributions.

The camp received substantial support from various volunteer organisations, including the Purvottar Pradesiya Marwari Sammelan and Rotary Club, among others.

The event was overseen by Mahim Jain, ensuring the smooth conduct of proceedings and the effective delivery of services to all attendees.
