Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress and activities of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University in Chabua, Dibrugarh district of Assam.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. J.P. Verma, District Commissioner Bikram Kairi, senior officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), and other key university functionaries.
During the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Verma delivered a detailed presentation outlining the university’s academic structure, course offerings, staffing status, and administrative framework.
He also highlighted several challenges faced by the institution in its current operations.

Governor Acharya reviewed various aspects of the university’s development, with a particular focus on the ongoing construction activities.
He urged PWD officials to expedite the completion of construction projects to ensure the institution is fully operational and equipped to serve students effectively.
Recognising the university’s potential to nurture sports talent in Assam and the Northeast region, Governor Acharya emphasised the need for all stakeholders to collaborate and work diligently.
He called on the Vice Chancellor and university staff to fulfill the institution’s mission of promoting sports and empowering youth.
“Sports is a crucial sector receiving immense attention from the Central and State governments. Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University holds the promise of transforming the future of Assam’s youth and contributing to the growth of the entire Northeast,” the Governor said.
He urged all stakeholders to address challenges collectively and accelerate efforts to complete the university, which is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s youth.
