GUWAHATI: A grand cyclothon organised by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) kicked off from Raj Bhawan in Guwahati on Friday.

The event, which is touted as a demonstration of unity and fitness by the NCC girl cadets, was flagged off by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.

A team of 15 cyclists, led by Marathoner Col Anjan Sengupta, comprising 14 girl cadets from NCC UP Directorate, is embarking on this challenging journey that will conclude in New Delhi.

The cyclists will traverse through four Indian states — Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh — before reaching New Delhi, covering a distance of 2107 km over 23 riding days.

The cadets aim to maintain an impressive average of almost 90 to 100 km per day.

Highlighting the NCC’s role in utilising youth power for national development, Governor Kataria lauded the training that instils discipline, grounded values, and a profound love for the country.

He wished the team success in completing the expedition.

Governor Kataria also engaged with the enthusiastic contingent, expressing his motivation and extending congratulations to the selected team members.

Highlighting the significance of the NCC, he hailed it as a symbol of discipline, leadership, and patriotism.

The Governor further highlighted the pivotal role of women in the nation, citing the “Naari Shakti” initiative as a beacon of hope and progress, showcasing the remarkable potential and capabilities of women in all spheres of life.

The flag-off also witnessed the presence of Maj Gen Gagandeep and Brig Rajendra Kumar DDG ADG of NCC UP Directorate, along with Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram and other NCC and Raj Bhawan officials.
