Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has summoned a one-day session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on June 9.
The session will begin at 9:30 am at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur.
The one-day special session of Assam Assembly has been called to pass a proposal for naming the Dibrugarh airport after musical maestro Bhupen Hazarika, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.
A notification issued by the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat on May 15 confirmed the schedule, stating that the session has been called under Article 17-4(1) of the Constitution of India.
“In exercise of the powers conferred under Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India, as amended up-to-date, I, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam, hereby summon a one-day Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly to meet at 9.30 A.M. on Monday, the 9th June, 2025 at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur,” the official order stated.

The state Cabinet had earlier decided to name the Dibrugarh airport after Bhupen Hazarika as part of his birth centenary celebration.
“Hon’ble Governor, Shri @Laxmanacharya54 ji has called for a One Day special session of @AssamAssembly on June 9, 2025 to pass a proposal on renaming the Dibrugarh Airport after Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika,” CM Sarma said in a post on X.
