Dispur: The Assam government on Wednesday ordered a suspension of mobile internet and data services across Baksa district following reports of a tense law and order situation during the transfer of undertrial prisoners to the district jail.
The directive, issued by Ajay Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home and Political Department, comes amid concerns over potential unrest near the Baksa District Jail and the risk of inflammatory content being circulated through social media.
According to the notification, the suspension of internet and mobile data services will remain in effect with immediate enforcement and will continue until further orders.
Voice calls and broadband services through fixed-line connections will remain operational.
