Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a 12-day programme on Wednesday to distribute grants, scholarships, and assistance under various government schemes across the state.

The initiative aims to provide financial and moral support to beneficiaries, touching various sections of society.

On the first day of the programme, benefits were distributed in Guwahati and Jorhat, reaching students from Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, and Jorhat districts.

Key distributions included scooters under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award (part of the Pragya Bharti scheme), cash prizes through the Anundoram Borooah Award, and bicycles under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme.

While launching the initiative, Sarma highlighted its purpose as a direct engagement with citizens to ensure support under various welfare schemes.

He said that the programme reflects the government’s commitment to empowering individuals and communities.

Thousands of students were among the first beneficiaries, with over 45,000 receiving cash awards and two-wheelers on the opening day.

The programme is expected to benefit nearly 27,000 Class 10 students scoring above 75% with cash incentives, over 48,000 Class 12 students with scooters, and more than 3.2 lakh Class 9 students with bicycles across the state.

The chief minister also outlined the government’s efforts to transform Assam’s education sector through infrastructure development, new institutions, and initiatives like Gunotsav.

Addressing students, he encouraged them to embrace their role in shaping India’s future and contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed nation by 2047.

Beyond education, the programme includes a relief package worth Rs 223 crore for over 78,000 borrowers under the microfinance loan waiver scheme.

It also provides Rs 353.37 crore in reconstruction and livelihood aid for more than 6.86 lakh disaster-affected families and Rs 21.9 crore to 6,490 self-help groups to support food processing units.

The government’s 12-day outreach reflects its commitment to equitable growth and support for citizens, marking a significant step in Assam’s development journey.
