The General Administration Department of Assam has released the official list of holidays for the year 2026.
The list includes a range of public holidays, festivals, and observances, during which government offices and all Revenue and Magisterial Courts in the state will remain closed.
The list of holidays for the year 2026 are as follows:
January 14 & 15 2025 – Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja
January 23- Netaji’s Birthday
January 26- Republic Day
January 31- Me-Dam -Me-Phi
February 1- Bir Chilaray Divas
February 18- Ali Aye Ligang
March 3- Dol Jatra
March 21- Id- Ul -Fitre
April 3- Good Friday
April 14, 15 & 16 – Bohag Bihu
May 1 – May Day
May 27- Id-ul –Zuha
June 1- Janmotsav of Sri Sri Madhabdeva
August 15- Independence Day
September 1- Tirubhav Tithi of Sri Sri Madhabdeva
September 4 –Janmastomi
September 12- Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva
October 2- Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi
October 18- Kati Bihu
October 19, 20 & 21- Durga Puja
October 25- Lakshmi Puja
November 8 – Kali Puja & Diwali
November 15- Chhat Puja
November 24- Guru Nanak’s Birthday & Lachit Divas
December 2- Asom Divas( Su-KaPha Divas)
December 25- Christmas Day
In addition to these, the Governor has declared half-holidays (starting at 1 PM) on certain festivals. The list also includes a variety of restricted holidays during the year.
Sundays and holidays falling on specific dates as mentioned in the announcement are also declared as public holidays.
On account of Ali-Aye-Ligang, there will be full Holiday for the Districts viz. Dhemaji, North Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Majuli, Charaideo and
Biswanath Districts (Total 11 nos. of District). There will be Restricted Holiday in respect of other districts for the occasion.
In addition to the Gazetted/Restricted Holidays, all 2nd and 4th Saturdays would also be observed as Holidays. Special Casual Leave on account of Matri Pitri Vandana may be availed by the State Government employees on any one of the following dates: July 9 & 10 or July 23 & 24.
The General Administration Department also reminds that educational institutions, medical and engineering colleges, and other establishments may choose to adopt or modify this list as per their academic calendars
