Guwahati: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit-1 of Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Assam, organsied a seven-day special camp at Aagchia village in Palashbari in Assam’s Kamrup district from March 24 to 30.
Under the guidance of Program Coordinator Dr. Basab Das and Program Officer Dr. Trishna Das, a dedicated team of 50 NSS volunteers engaged in various impactful community service activities, which aimed at fostering sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
Throughout the week, the volunteers initiated a plantation drive that not only beautified the village but also promoted environmental conservation among the community.
The NSS team conducted a thorough door-to-door survey to assess villagers’ health conditions, sanitation, and social challenges, providing crucial data for designing community-tailored health programs.
In addition to these efforts, the NSS team distributed first-aid kits and conducted usage demonstrations for the villagers, ensuring that residents were equipped with essential healthcare resources and knowledge.
The NSS volunteers also organized engaging awareness talks covering vital topics such as hygiene, education, women’s empowerment, and government welfare schemes.
These discussions encouraged active participation from community members, fostering a sense of collective responsibility towards social issues.
To further enhance community well-being, a cleanliness drive was undertaken, focusing on public areas and schools to maintain a clean and healthy environment for all.
The camp also featured an art competition that saw enthusiastic participation from local school students, providing them with a platform to showcase their creativity and artistic talents.
Additionally, yoga sessions were conducted to promote mental and physical well-being among participants.
