Guwahati: The website of Gauhati University’s Krishna Kanta Handiqui Library was reportedly hacked by Pakistan-based hackers on Sunday night, causing significant disruption for students trying to access vital e-resources.

According to university officials, the library’s “remote login” system was hacked by suspected Pakistani hackers.

Upon gaining unauthorized access, the hackers defaced the website with the pro-Pakistan message: “Doodh mangoge toh kheer denge, Kashmir mangoge toh chir denge (If you ask for milk, we’ll give you rice pudding; if you ask for Kashmir, we’ll tear you apart).”

The Pakistani hackers allegedly defaced the site with several other posts with messages “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Independent Kashmir.”

The cyber attack, which rendered the library’s e-resources such as online journals, databases and e-books inaccessible since Sunday night, presented considerable difficulties for students dependent on the digital platform.

Librarian Prashant Kumar Deka stated that the breach was detected early this morning, and action was taken immediately to regain control.

As per reports, the remote login system has since been recovered from the hackers, and efforts are underway to ensure its security and full functionality.

The university officials had also contacted the Ahmedabad-based Indian Access Management Federation to secure the system.

This incident, though technically resolved, has sparked serious concerns among students. The students are demanding immediate attention from both the administration and government cybersecurity agencies regarding the incident.

University authorities are yet to issue an official statement beyond confirming the restoration of services.
