Guwahati: Assam’s Garo athlete John Mathaiuse Marak has bagged Gold at the Tata Steel Sports Climbing Championship 2025 (TSSCC) in Jamshedpur.
The Assam Sports & Youth Welfare Minister, Nandita Garlosa, congratulated the young athlete for his remarkable feat.
Taking to social media, Minister Nandita Garlosa wrote, “Congratulations to John Mathaiuse Marak for achieving a remarkable achievement in speed competition held at Jamshedpur by achieving Gold at the Tata Steel Sports Climbing Championship 2025.”
“Wishing him more success in the days to come,” she said.
Marak clinched a Gold medal at the 28th IMF National Sports Climbing Championship 2025 held recently in Bengaluru.
He is a member of the Assam Rock and Sport Climbing Association.
The Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) hosted the 5th edition of ‘Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship 2025’ at TSAF Sport Climbing Academy, JRD Tata Sports Complex, in Jamshedpur from January 24 to 27.
The event witnessed the participation of over 270 athletes from 5 countries.
The Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship (TSSCC), which began in 2019, has rapidly evolved into India’s premier sport climbing competition.
It offers a platform for both new and experienced climbers to display their skills, dedication, and passion for the sport.

TSAF successfully hosted the four editions of the Tata Steel Sport Climbing Championship in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
It also hosted the IFSC Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship in 2022 & 2023 and the IFSC Asian Youth Sport Climbing Championship in 2024.
