Guwahati: Assam police on Tuesday seized heroin worth Rs. 9 crore in Kamrup district, leading to the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in the narcotics smuggling operation.
The state’s Special Task Force (STF) played a pivotal role in the successful interception and seizure.
According to police officials, the STF had received credible intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotic substances by a family from Churachandpur district in Manipur.
The family was reportedly on its way to deliver the heroin to peddlers operating in the Hajo and Goreswar areas of Assam.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a well-coordinated operation was carried out by the STF.
Under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalyan Pathak, the STF team set up a check point in the Amingaon area.
During the operation, they intercepted a vehicle suspected to be carrying the narcotics.
Upon searching the vehicle, the team discovered 1.128 kilograms of heroin concealed in a highly creative manner—hidden inside 94 soap boxes with secret compartments, making the contraband hard to detect.
The driver and co-driver of the vehicle were arrested on the spot.
During the subsequent interrogation of the duo, the STF uncovered additional leads that led to the arrest of two more individuals—identified as local peddlers—from the Hajo and Goreswar regions.

These individuals are believed to be part of a larger drug distribution network operating in the state.
Following the arrests, authorities have launched legal proceedings against the accused under relevant narcotics laws.
This seizure marks a significant success in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Assam, with authorities continuing to crack down on the illegal narcotics trade in the region.
The police have also stated that they are further investigating the link between the arrested individuals and the larger drug syndicate.
