Guwahati: The former deputy commander-in-chief of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), Dristi Rajkhowa, has confirmed his intention to join the ruling BJP.
Speaking to the media, Rajkhowa stated, “I will soon join the BJP and talks are ongoing regarding the process. I have received guidance in this matter from Tankeswar Rabha, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, who is also a seasoned politician.”
The once hardcore ULFA leader, a close associate of ULFA (I) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah joined the militant organization in 1989.
After spending almost three decades in the organization, Drishti Rajkhowa alias Major Rabha, surrendered in 2020 along with his four bodyguards at the Red Horns Division of the Indian Army.
Rajkohwa was the commander of 109 Battalion of ULFA (I) until 2011. In November 2020, Paresh Baruah promoted him to the rank of deputy commander.
