GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and impacting over 11 lakh residents across 23 districts.
According to emerging reports, two people lost their lives in separate incidents in Tinsukia district, while one individual drowned in Jonai, Dhemaji district.
This raises the total death toll from flood, landslide, and storm-related incidents this season to 48.
Rescue operations have been intensified, with nearly 2,850 people rescued by the civil administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indian Air Force.
The floods have affected more than 11,34,400 residents in the districts of Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and Udalguri.

Lakhimpur district is the worst hit, with over 1.65 lakh people affected. Darrang and Golaghat districts have also been severely impacted, with 1.47 lakh and 1.07 lakh people affected respectively.
To provide relief, nearly 490 relief camps and distribution centres have been established in 21 districts, sheltering 2.86 lakh people.
The flooding has submerged at least 2,200 villages, destroyed embankments, roads, and bridges, and damaged over 42,400 hectares of cropland.
Additionally, 8.32 lakh domestic animals and poultry have been affected.
Rivers in the region continue to swell, with the Brahmaputra flowing above the danger mark at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dhubri, and the Barak River exceeding safe levels at BP Ghat.

This marks the third wave of flooding in Assam in less than two months.
In May, Cyclone Remal, which struck the Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts, led to initial floods in Assam.
In the second half of June, incessant rainfall for over a week resulted in further flooding, affecting 1.7 lakh residents.
As the state grapples with the severe impact of these floods, authorities remain on high alert, continuing rescue and relief operations to aid those affected.
