Guwahati: Former members of the armed forces in Assam have extended heartfelt appreciation to the state government for its recent initiative to support the families of serving military personnel.
The move, they said, reflects a profound respect for the sacrifices made by soldiers and a deep commitment to their well-being.
In a decision made during a cabinet meeting on Saturday, the Assam government announced a week-long initiative tasking district officials with identifying families of armed forces personnel and forming dedicated support groups to assist them in any way possible.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma underscored the importance of the initiative, stating, “We want to take care of the family members of the soldiers till they come back from the battlefield so that the person at the war front is not worried about their families.”
The Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, issued a statement on behalf of the ex-servicemen community, expressing gratitude to the chief minister and the state cabinet for their “profound empathy and unwavering support” for the families of personnel currently deployed under ‘Operation SINDOOR’.

“This compassionate initiative is a testament to the state government’s solidarity with the armed forces and acknowledges the emotional and logistical challenges faced by soldiers and their families during deployment,” the directorate noted.
The gesture, which includes personal visits and support from district-level officials, has been hailed as a meaningful and morale-boosting measure, demonstrating the state’s commitment to standing by its soldiers—not only on the battlefield but also through support for their loved ones at home.
