Guwahati: Indus Towers Limited, a leading telecom infrastructure company, on Wednesday (June 25) inaugurated seven new sanitation facilities in government schools across Assam.

The new facilities for Kamrup Metro, Mankachar, Goalpara, Barpeta, Darrang, and Jorhat districts were inaugurated by Assam Minister of Education Dr. Ranuj Pegu and Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO – NESA, Indus Towers Ltd., at a ceremony held at Satgaon High School in Guwahati.

This initiative is part of Indus Towers’ flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program, ‘Pragati’, and aligns with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) to promote hygiene and sanitation.

“Access to proper sanitation plays a crucial role in promoting health and safety, especially for young girls,” said Dr. Ranuj Pegu.

“I appreciate the efforts of Indus Towers Limited and NEAID in improving school infrastructure in Assam. This initiative is well aligned with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and I look forward to seeing its positive impact on students’ well-being and attendance,” the minister said.

The project addresses two critical pillars of girl child education – infrastructure and awareness. Alongside the construction of hygienic washrooms, the program includes comprehensive menstrual hygiene workshops.

These workshops aim to break social taboos and provide students with essential health knowledge, fostering confidence and informed decision-making.

Rajender Gurung said, “Through our flagship CSR program ‘Pragati’, we aim to address critical infrastructure gaps and empower the education of young girls in Assam. By providing safe and accessible sanitation facilities, the initiative aims to improve the health and hygiene for young girls in school. This supportive environment enables students to concentrate on learning, contributing to better attendance and long-term educational success.”

Indus Towers has built a total of 23 clean and hygienic sanitation facilities in government schools across Northeast India. This project has been implemented by Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID).
