Guwahati: The 6th edition of the Assam Downhill Championship (ADC 6.0) was successfully held on February 22 at the Monkey Temple Trail, Bortila Hills in Guwahati, bringing together some of the finest downhill mountain bikers from across India.
The event witnessed participation from around 30 cyclists representing multiple states, including Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, highlighting the growing national footprint of downhill cycling competition in the Northeast.
ADC, initiated in 2018 by Spokehub Racing, is one of India’s most loved MTB downhill events, and has consistently featured riders from across the country as well as neighbouring nations in its previous editions.
Over the years, the championship has played a pivotal role in nurturing the downhill cycling, also called gravity riding culture, in the Northeast and positioning Assam as a key destination for competitive downhill mountain biking.
ADC 6.0 further solidified the Northeast’s emerging reputation as a gravity sports powerhouse. The challenging race track, masterfully designed and built by the Shillong-based Trail Head Crew, pushed riders to their limits with steep chutes, jumps, berms, technical rock sections, and demanding trail features that tested both skill and endurance.
The 1.13 kms track design was widely appreciated for advancing trail standards and contributing to the evolution of downhill mountain biking in the region.
The Men’s Elite category saw a fiercely competitive field of riders from different parts of the country. Taitus Marak from Meghalaya delivered a commanding and technically precise run to claim the gold medal.
Virendra Mali from Maharashtra secured the silver position after a close contest, while Samarpan Jain from Karnataka clinched the bronze, reflecting the high level of national competition at this year’s championship.
The Hardtail category delivered thrilling performances on the rugged terrain, proving the capability of hardtail bikes on technical downhill trails. Pynshngain from Meghalaya took the top spot with an agile and controlled ride, followed by Joel Chettri from Sikkim in second place and Lammeo War from Meghalaya in third.
The Junior category showcased the rising talent pool in gravity sports from the Northeast and beyond. Edgar Nonglait from Meghalaya secured first place with an impressive performance, while Koto Losou from Nagaland finished second and Rajdeep Sharma from Assam took third place. Their performances underscored the growing momentum for youth participation and development in downhill mountain biking.
In the Masters category, Miller B. Renthlei from Mizoram dominated the field, recording the fastest overall time and emerging as the champion in the veteran segment. Sharai from Meghalaya also delivered a strong performance, highlighting the sustained passion and competitiveness among experienced riders.
The championship served as a platform for athletes from diverse geographical backgrounds to compete on a professionally built downhill trail, encouraging cross-state sporting exchange and strengthening the cycling ecosystem in the Northeast.
