Guwahati: Assam down town University (AdtU) on Friday celebrated its 16th Foundation Day with a colourful ceremony at its campus amphitheatre, bringing together faculty, students, dignitaries and guests to commemorate the institution’s academic journey and social contributions.
The day began with a flag hoisting by Dean of Studies Prof. Bandana Dutta at the Bornadi Block, followed by the National Anthem and the university anthem.
Chief guest Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, inaugurated a documentary highlighting AdtU’s milestones and later delivered the keynote address, urging students and faculty to embrace innovation and community-driven growth.
Guest of honour, Niyamiya Barta editor Naresh Kalita, released the AdtU magazine and addressed the gathering, while Chancellor Dr. N. N. Dutta and Vice Chancellor Prof. N. C. Talukdar outlined the university’s future vision and praised the collective efforts of the AdtU fraternity.

The celebration featured a mix of cultural performances including Borgeet, Bhortaal, Boro and fusion dances, reflecting the diversity and talent of the university community.
Awards were presented to students, faculty, researchers and support staff for excellence in academics, innovation, teaching, research, long service and contributions to the institution.
Nearly Rs. 50 lakh was distributed in recognition of research publications and staff achievements.
The event concluded with the singing of the Assam State Anthem and a Vote of Thanks by the Chairperson, underscoring AdtU’s commitment to knowledge, innovation and holistic development.
