Guwahati: Assam down town University (AdtU) hosted its 12th convocation on Wednesday, marking a day of celebration for graduates and recognition of distinguished personalities.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presided over the ceremony, which began with an academic procession and the national and state anthems.
The Governor, welcomed by Chancellor Dr. N.N. Dutta and Vice Chancellor Prof. N.C. Talukdar, inaugurated the event and planted a sapling on the campus, symbolising growth and sustainability.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor presented the university’s annual report, highlighting achievements in academics, research, and innovation.
The Governor congratulated the graduating class, urging them to contribute to society with resilience, compassion, and innovation.
A key highlight was the conferment of honorary degrees. Padma Shri Dr. Randeep Guleria, former AIIMS Director and current AIIMS Bilaspur President, received the D.Sc. (Honoris Causa), while Dr. Sri Sri Pitambar Dev Goswami, 16th Satradhikar of Sri Sri Auniati Satra, was awarded the D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) for their contributions to healthcare, knowledge, and society.
Degrees were conferred on Ph.D., postgraduate and undergraduate students, alongside gold medals and awards for academic and professional excellence.
Among the honorees were Punam Kumari (Best Postgraduate), Krishna Kumar Bharti (Best Undergraduate), and Nafisa Rahman Choudhuri (Best Placement Achiever).
The ceremony concluded with the signing of the Convocation Book and a vote of thanks, reaffirming AdtU’s vision of empowering students to become future leaders and innovators.
