Guwahati: As the World Earth Day was observed on April 22, the students of Assam Don Bosco University vowed to reduce the use of single-use plastic.
With a proactive approach to address the global challenge of plastic pollution in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Department of Management of Assam Don Bosco University launched the campaign.
By raising awareness, and promoting behavioral change, the campaign aimed to create plastic-free environments that foster sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and human well-being.
The event was volunteered by the final year students of BBA programme of the Department of Management, Assam Don Bosco University.
The faculty coordinator of the event Dr Rashmita Barua and the student volunteers launched a Public Awareness Campaign on social media cleading up to Earth Day, sharing information about the environmental impact of plastics and promoting the “No Plastic Zone” initiative.
The student volunteers the Department of Management, Assam Don Bosco University also hosted presentations in the university campus for students and staff.
The presentation was aimed to educate participants about plastic pollution and sustainable living practices; encouraged individuals and businesses of the nearby community to pledge to go plastic-free.
The students gave tips for reducing plastic consumption and alternatives to single-use plastics in the area by hosting a rally in the area.
The event was concluded by organising a Community Clean-Up drive in the campus and in the neighbourhood.
