Guwahati: Dima Hasao’s first-ever ‘Boxing Coaching Centre’ has been inaugurated in Gerem village, a move that is set to provide local youth with a new avenue for sports and career development.
The centre in Assam’s Dima Hasao district was formally inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey near National Highway 54 on Saturday.
The initiative, which has the support of the District Sports Officer and guidance from experienced boxing experts, will serve as a dedicated training platform for aspiring young athletes.
The establishment of this coaching centre is a significant step towards nurturing young talent in Dima Hasao. This initiative aims to empower young boxers and help them achieve success at both national and international levels, bringing recognition to the district.
“This initiative marks a new beginning for our youth, providing them with a platform to learn, train, and showcase their talent in the field of boxing. With proper guidance and discipline, our young champions will now have the opportunity to dream big and aim for national as well as international recognition,” Assam Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa posted on X.
“Almost two months back, Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Gen Secretary of Boxing Federation of India and Gen secretary of Amateur Boxing Association and Senior coach had visited Haflong. A productive discussion had made this possible for the young children. Let us help them to achieve their dream,” she stated.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We are strengthening sports infrastructure across Assam to enable our kids to learn, train and become sportstars of tomorrow.”
The event was also graced by Col. Rakesh 26 A/R , Vaibhav Rawat ,SDPO, and gaon buras and villagers.
