Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association has suspended four players for allegedly attempting to influence and instigate fellow players during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Lucknow.
The state body has suspended four cricketers with immediate effect and initiated criminal proceedings following an internal probe and inputs from the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).
The ACSU conducted an enquiry into allegations of trying to ‘influence’ players and found the four cricketers guilty.
The development has sent shockwaves through Assam cricket, especially at a time when domestic tournaments are under close scrutiny for ethical conduct. The ACA’s move underscores a zero-tolerance stance against any activity that undermines fair play and credibility. Officials said the suspensions are preventive in nature and intended to ensure the integrity of the sport while the investigation continues.
Amit Sinha, a former Ranji Trophy team captain, is also among those found guilty by the BCCI’s ACSU. The other players are Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri.
According to the statement, they have been suspended “with immediate effect after allegations emerged that they were involved in corrupt practices relating to the game of cricket.”
“The above four players, who have represented Assam at various stages, are accused of influencing and attempting to instigate some of the current Assam team players, who took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8,” said Sanatan Das, the ACA secretary said.
All four players have represented Assam at different levels in the past. According to the association, the allegations relate to attempts to influence and instigate fellow Assam players who were part of the state squad during the tournament.
