In another blow to the opposition ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress has witnessed a fresh resignation from its organisational ranks.
Nityananda Das, who was serving as the vice-president of the party’s IT Cell in the state, has stepped down from his position and also resigned from the primary membership of the party.
According to sources, Das submitted his resignation to Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), thereby formally ending his association with the party’s organisational and digital communication wing.
Das had been actively involved in the party’s digital outreach initiatives in Assam. In addition to his role as vice-president of the IT Cell, he was closely associated with the social media team, contributing to the Congress party’s online campaigns, digital messaging and engagement strategies across various platforms.

The Congress has faced a series of setbacks in the state in recent weeks. Few days ago, three Congress legislators Kamalakhya De Purakayastha, Sashikanta Das and Basanta Das were formally inducted into the party by Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia in the presence of Union minister Pabitra Margherita at a programme held in the state.
Apart from this, two other MLAs — Abdul Rashid Mondal and Sherman Ali Ahmed — joined the Raijor Dal last month.
