Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has filed a police complaint against the state’s BJP President Bhabesh Kalita at Bhangagarh Police Station in Guwahati, accusing him of making threatening and unconstitutional remarks regarding the Arunodoi Scheme.
During a public gathering in Rangiya on September 19, Kalita allegedly stated that only BJP members would be eligible to receive benefits under the scheme.
He reportedly warned that those who could not provide proof of BJP membership would not receive the monthly Rs 1,250 payment.
A delegation from the APCC, led by Social Media and IT Department Chairman Ratul Kalita, condemned Kalita’s remarks as an attempt to intimidate the public and misuse government welfare programs for political gain.
“Bhabesh Kalita has lost his mental balance and is trying to safeguard his position by scaring the public,” Ratul Kalita said.

The Congress delegation, which included APCC Vice President Rupa Deuri, General Secretary Arun Tiwari, and Secretary Kridip Barman, demanded Kalita’s immediate arrest.
“Welfare schemes funded by taxpayers should be distributed equally to all beneficiaries, without political bias,” Kridip Barman said.
