Guwahati: Assam Congress on Friday lodged a police complaint against BJP MLA and Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah for his alleged insulting remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who briefed the media about ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Singh allegedly made some derogatory remarks on May 12 in Indore against Col Sofiya Qureshi.

The complaint was filed at the Dispur police station by the party’s civic and social outreach wing.

Congress asserted that Shah’s remarks not only hurt the sentiments of the people but also angered the nation.

“Singh said that Sofiya Qureshi is the sister of terrorism. In the light of such a situation, making such statements against the Indian armed forces by a Cabinet minister of a BJP-ruled state is not right,” APCC spokesperson Bandeep Dutta said.

“Remarks against any official of the armed forces cannot be tolerated. Such remarks will weaken the morale of our forces,” Dutta said.

He added, “We condemn the remarks made by Singh. On behalf of the APCC and the Civic and Social Outreach Congress, we are trying to lodge a complaint against Vijay Singh across the entire state of Assam.”

He maintained that at a time when the entire country was rallying behind the armed forces, such comments from a minister were highly condemnable.

He also appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior ministers to lodge a complaint against Singh in all police stations of Assam.

The Congress will register complaints against Singh in various police stations in Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Kamrup, Nalbari, and Darrang districts.

The Assam Congress also condemned the remark made by Jagdish Devda, terming it utterly disgraceful and a direct insult to the nation.

“ ‘The Indian Army and the soldiers are bowing at the feet of Prime Minister Modi,’ a statement made by Madhya Pradesh’s BJP Deputy Chief Minister is not only shameful, but also a blatant insult to the courage and dignity of our armed forces,” the party said.

“At a time when the entire country stands in respect of our brave soldiers, such comments expose the BJP leadership’s petty and disturbing mindset. The BJP and जगदीश देवड़ा must issue a public apology at the earliest. He should be immediately removed from his position, and Prime Minister @narendramodi must clarify whether he endorses such outrageous remarks from his party members,” Congress said.
