GUWAHATI: The Higher Education department of Assam has extended the admissions deadlines to undergraduate courses in colleges across the state, citing disruptions caused by the monsoon floods.

The decision came after reports suggested that many students were unable to reach the institutions due to the flood-affected conditions.

Initially scheduled to conclude on June 21, admissions based on the first merit list have been extended until June 23, according to the latest notification.

Additionally, the release of the second merit list has been rescheduled to June 24 and 25, with admissions open from June 26 to 28.

Spot admissions are set to commence from June 29 onwards.

Students not included in the merit lists may still secure admissions if vacancies remain after the initial rounds.

The revised timelines apply uniformly to all Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).

Admissions based on CUET (Common University Entrance Test) will continue until July 31.

The publication of merit lists for CUET admissions is scheduled for July 9 (1st list), July 12 (2nd list), and July 16 (3rd list).

Spot admissions for both CUET and non-CUET categories will take place between July 19 and July 20, with final spot admissions scheduled from July 29 to July 31.

Meanwhile, colleges have reserved at least 20% of seats for CUET pass candidates, with admissions to these seats also starting from June 29 onwards.

In flood-affected districts like Karimganj, Hailakandi, and Cachar in Barak Valley, colleges have reported significantly low student turnout.

The extension of admission deadlines aims to accommodate students affected by the flood situation, ensuring equitable opportunities for education despite the challenges posed by natural calamities.
