Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has officially opened the newly expanded Integrated Terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.
The state-of-the-art terminal is designed to accommodate up to 13 million passengers annually, with a peak-hour capacity of 4,300 domestic and 200 international travelers.
The terminal expansion has doubled its gate capacity, from eight to 14, and introduces four new DigiYatra gates that will allow for smoother, hassle-free check-ins.
The terminal’s design takes inspiration from Assam’s rich cultural heritage, featuring the Foxtail Orchid (Kopou Phool), the state flower, which symbolizes love, fertility, and celebration.
In addition to the enhanced passenger amenities, the airport’s operational capacity has been significantly boosted.

Air traffic movements have increased from 18 to 34 per hour, thanks to the addition of a parallel taxiway.
The security check-in area has been expanded by 150 square meters, improving efficiency and security with new screening queues and upgraded facilities.
The terminal also boasts a 140-meter-long architectural wall and a 300-square-meter garden area that is still under development, further enhancing the terminal’s aesthetic appeal and utility.
Remarkably, all these improvements were completed in just two months, ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, ensuring travelers can benefit from world-class amenities during their journeys.
This newly upgraded terminal elevates Guwahati’s status as a key travel hub, ready to meet the demands of both domestic and international air traffic.
