Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday launched a series of development projects worth more than Rs. 500 crore during a day-long visit to Dibrugarh, with a focus on enhancing education, healthcare, and skill development infrastructure in the region.
At Dibrugarh University, Sarma laid the foundation stone for an ambitious Rs. 146.43-crore infrastructure upgrade under the Chief Minister’s Special Grant and the Pradhan Mantri Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA).
The plan includes the construction of a girls’ hostel, new academic and research blocks, a modern library, an incubation centre, and upgrades to internal roads, housing quarters, a sports complex, and gymnasium facilities.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said the projects would take the university into its next phase of growth by strengthening both academic and extracurricular capacities, ultimately benefiting students across disciplines.
Later, Sarma laid the foundation stone for new residential quarters for faculty and a student hostel at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH).
Spread across more than 196 acres, the Rs.357-crore project is aimed at improving living conditions for medical professionals and students alike.
Sarma said the upgrades were part of a key government commitment to bolster the state’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly at one of Assam’s premier medical institutions.
