New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Rail Bhawan to discuss strategies aimed at resolving long-standing transport bottlenecks in the region and enhancing railway infrastructure across the state.
The meeting focused on expanding railway connectivity, modernising infrastructure, improving data sharing mechanisms, and optimising operational workflows to position Assam as a future logistics hub in Northeast India.
Both leaders agreed on the need for coordinated efforts to overcome logistical challenges that have historically hindered growth and connectivity in the state.
Vaishnaw acknowledged Assam’s strategic importance in India’s transport landscape and assured that the Railways Ministry remains committed to upgrading infrastructure and supporting the state’s vision for economic transformation through robust logistics.
The high-level discussion was attended by Assam Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, and Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan, Kavitha Padmanabhan.

The meeting lasted nearly an hour and was described as constructive and forward-looking by officials present.
Following the meeting, Sarma shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Always a pleasure to meet Hon’ble Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji. Today we spoke at length on several efforts to mitigate legacy transport bottlenecks and expand Assam’s rail infrastructure. These are crucial check marks as we plan to build a logistics hub in the State.”
