Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Nitin Gadkari, on Tuesday to discuss ongoing National Highway projects in Assam, including the Guwahati Ring Road.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from MoRTH and the Assam government, focused on various infrastructure initiatives. Gadkari later shared the discussion on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Discussed the ongoing National Highway projects, including the Guwahati Ring Road, with Assam Chief Minister Shri @himantabiswa Ji and senior officials in Delhi today.”
Chief Minister Sarma expressed his gratitude for Gadkari’s support in accelerating key infrastructure projects in Assam, writing on X, “Happy to share! Just concluded an excellent meeting with Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @nitin_gadkari Ji. I am truly impressed by the unwavering support from @MORTHIndia in expediting priority infrastructure projects in Assam, ensuring they are completed on time.”
Sarma highlighted key decisions made during the meeting, including the timely commencement of construction on three major infrastructure projects– the Guwahati Ring Road, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, and the underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh. Additionally, progress was discussed on the Jorhat-Dibrugarh stretch of the National Highway and the Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali Highway.
In the previous review meeting in October, several National Highway projects were discussed, including the 121-km Guwahati Ring Road, the Kaziranga elevated corridor, the four-lane National Highway 37 from Jorhat to Dibrugarh, and the Majuli bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Kamalabari and Nimatighat.
A separate meeting on October 2 discussed the slow progress of the Majuli-Jorhat bridge project, with decisions made to replace the existing contractor and expedite the process. Sarma expressed his gratitude for Gadkari’s decisive actions to fast-track the project, saying on X, “Gratitude to @MORTHIndia for taking cognisance of the matter. We appreciate the effort being undertaken and hope timelines are met at the soonest for this critical project.”
Sarma also met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, and invited him to attend the Advantage Assam Summit 2025. Sarma briefed Nadda on the progress Assam has made in implementing PMJAY, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and other central health schemes. On X, Sarma wrote, “I had the honour to meet Adarniya @BJP4India Adhyaksh and Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @JPNadda Ji in New Delhi today. On behalf of the people of Assam, I invited him to grace the #AdvantageAssam Summit 2025.”
