Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday laid the foundation stone for the ropeway connecting Biswanath Ghat to Umatumuni River Island.
The 446-metre-long ropeway, with a capacity of 300 passengers per hour, will ensure safe and seamless travel for devotees and tourists.
“On the auspicious period of Chaitra Navratri, I performed the Bhumi Pujan of the Rs 59cr Biswanath Ropeway project will connect Biswanath Ghat with Umatumoni and give a fillip to tourism in the district, along with easing connectivity to the sacred island,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X.

With a budget of Rs. 58.81 crore, the project is slated for completion within 24 months.
This project, designed and modeled by the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, is set to significantly boost tourism and streamline transportation.
The chief minister also launched several important projects in Biswanath district, which is set to elevate public facilities in the region.

CM Sarma also launched one of the most advanced fully automated vehicle testing centres in Biswanath.
“This is the first such centre by Applus in Asia. Vehicle owners can now get a fitness certificate without any manual intervention and without visiting the DTO office and with zero scope of corruption.”
