GUWAHATI: In a move to elevate sports infrastructure in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing renovation projects at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, on August 7. The aim of the project is to develop the stadium into a sprawling 50,000-seat facility.
This ambitious undertaking is just a fragment of a more extensive initiative as the government contemplates giving the Jorhat Stadium a much-needed makeover.
“With the finish line in sight for Nehru Stadium’s renovation and the blueprint for Jorhat Stadium’s transformation taking shape, the state of Assam anticipates an exuberant sports horizon that caters to a diverse array of events,” the Chief Minister was quoted as saying during his inspection visit. He expressed optimism about the positive impact these projects will have on the sports community.
Meanwhile, as a part of the Bikash Utsav celebrations in Golaghat district, Sarma also graced the inauguration of Phase I of the Integrated Sports Complex in Bokakhat on Monday. The complex, constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore, boasts impressive features such as a 1000-seat gallery, two-storey pavilions, dedicated rooms for players and referees, a VIP lounge, and 17 shops, making it a state-of-the-art facility to foster sports excellence in the region.
