Hojai: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed railway overbridge at Jamunamukh in Hojai district.
The 951-metre-long structure, featuring a 7.5-metre-wide motorable carriageway, is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Dabaka, Kampur and the Jamunamukh railway stations, he said.
Built at a cost of Rs 83 crore, the overbridge is aimed at easing traffic movement and enhancing regional transport links.
The chief minister also virtually inaugurated the Model High School at Balijuri Tea Estate, along with Jagannath community halls and skill centres at Kandali, Dhantola and Sagunbahi tea estates.
In addition, Sarma laid the foundation stones for new buildings at Barhampur Higher Secondary School and Jamunamukh Higher Secondary School, besides several flood-protection and road infrastructure projects under the Nagaon Water Resources Division.
Addressing a public meeting, Sarma said the new bridge will ensure seamless travel between Dabaka, Kampur and Jamunamukh. He noted that areas such as Kampur and Jamunamukh face recurrent flooding due to the Kopili river, and stressed that the Water Resources Department is implementing projects worth nearly Rs 80 crore to mitigate the problem. Once these works are completed, the strengthened embankments are expected to provide long-term relief, he added.
The chief minister said that before the present government assumed office, development activities had slowed and welfare schemes were not reaching the poor effectively.

He highlighted initiatives such as Orunodoi, Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyomita Abhiyan, Nijut Moina, Ayushman Bharat-Jan Arogya Yojana, and subsidised distribution of pulses, sugar and salt through ration cards, saying these programmes have provided substantial support to both poor and middle-class families.
