Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Bhagadatta Flyover-2 at Rukminigaon in Guwahati on Sunday.
The 660-metre-long, four-lane flyover was completed in a record time of nine months, well ahead of its originally planned 18-month schedule.
The flyover is set to significantly ease congestion on the Dispur–Six Mile corridor, one of the city’s busiest stretches.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 112 crore by RITES India Limited, the flyover was built using advanced composite structure technology. It is named after King Bhagadatta of ancient Kamarupa. The earlier flyover at the Super Market area has now been renamed Bhagadatta Flyover-1.
“People blessed us in large numbers as we continue to deliver transformative projects in a time bound manner that will enhance their Ease of Living,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma potsed on X.
He said the project is part of a broader initiative to ease traffic congestion and strengthen urban infrastructure in Guwahati.
Additionally, parking has been developed under the flyover to benefit nearby businesses.
Named after the legendary King Bhagadatta of ancient Pragjyotishpur, the flyover blends the region’s rich historical legacy with its aspirations for a modern and efficient transport network.
Sarma also announced several upcoming infrastructure projects across the city, including flyovers and ramps at Ganeshguri, Arya Nagar, Maligaon, and Radha Govinda Baruah Road, as well as an elevated corridor at Bharalumukh.

He stated that the Cycle Factory and Bharalumukh flyovers are expected to be completed by February, while the Noonmati–Chandmari flyover is likely to be ready by April.
The Chief Minister informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lay the foundation stone for the Narengi–Kurua bridge and the Guwahati Ring Road project in September.
