Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (June 5) inaugurated the ‘Lovlina Boxing Academy’ in North Guwahati, a new facility designed to nurture the state’s emerging pugilists.
The Chief Minister expressed optimism that the academy would become a new destination for the aspiring boxers of the region to pursue their dreams.
“Heralded by ace boxer @LovlinaBorgohai, the centre is equipped with modern training facilities & will prepare our youngsters for the next level,” CM Sarma posted on X.
Lauding the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain, CM Sarma said, “Lovlina- a name which evokes pride in the heart of everyone in Assam. Today, I am happy to inaugurate the Lovlina Boxing Academy in Guwahati, which will encourage and train the future gen of pugilists in Assam.”
The state Sports Department will allocate Rs 2 crore for developing infrastructure, including the construction of a hostel for athletes. The academy’s training fee has been set at Rs 500 to ensure affordability for all aspiring boxers.
“This academy is more than just a training facility; it’s a dream realised and a promise kept to myself and to the countless young boys and girls in Assam who dream of stepping into the ring,” Borgohain said.

“With the Lovlina Boxing Academy, my deepest desire is to create a nurturing environment where aspiring athletes not only learn the art of boxing but also develop the resilience, discipline, and unwavering spirit needed to succeed,” she added.
The Lovlina Boxing Academy is a testament to Borgohain’s commitment to nurturing raw talent and providing them with world-class training and infrastructure.
