Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated 67 newly constructed, state-of-the-art school buildings and laid the foundation stones for 61 additional institutions in Sonapur on Monday.
This initiative aims to create world-class learning environments, empowering every student.
The projects are being implemented under the Atal Avichal Agragrami Assam initiative with an investment of Rs 765 crore.
This comes under the Assam government’s plans to upgrade 1300 schools with all facilities.
The newly inaugurated and proposed schools are aimed at creating modern, well-equipped learning spaces, offering improved academic environments for students and teachers across the state.

In a post on ‘X’, CM Sarma wrote, “The scale of Assam’s execution just keeps on getting better. Earlier we celebrated renovation of even a single school, but today in Assam, we have dedicated 67 schools at one go. We’ve undertaken an ambitious exercise to upgrade 1300 schools replete with all facilities & labs.”
“I also laid the foundation stone of 61 more schools on this occassion. We are on a mission to upgrade all schools in Assam by 2030. Under an #AtalAvichalAgragamiAssam, we’re committed to give our students the best learning platform so they can learn, grow and build a Viksit Assam,” he added.
Addressing the gathering in Sonapur, the Chief Minister highlighted that education is the top priority of the Assam government, and the state is focused on building modern schools with better facilities so that children can dream bigger and achieve more. The Chief Minister said a strong education system is a must to Assam’s long-term development.
